MOORE, Okla. –

A locally owned tanning and fitness center in Moore says they’re days away from closing their doors for good.

The owner of Val’s Sun and Shape, Valerie Carter, blames COVID-19 and tells News 9 she’s not giving up without a fight.

You don’t have to spend much time at Val’s Sun and Shape in Moore to find the passion.

“It is beyond rewarding,” said Carter. “This is the best job, the best place, and I have the best women that work with me.”

But for co-owner Carter and her five employees that all may be coming to an end soon.

Following the COVID-19 shutdown, Carter said things just haven’t been the same.

“We kind of knew that was coming because we knew how many people were coming in and cancelling. I mean it is affecting everybody. This is a luxury,” said Carter. “The little paycheck protection program loan that everyone got it barely covered payroll and rent. It’s just not enough.”

Carter said she had a bad feeling in Mid-August.

If not enough money is raised by October 1, doors will close for good on the 19th and another mom and pop shop will become victim to a devastating pandemic.

“We’re going to need a miracle and I believe that we will come close if not succeed in our goal of staying open, we just don’t know when it is going to end,” said Carter.

Walking out the door each night gets increasingly difficult knowing not just her, but Valerie’s 5 employees she’s come to love like family, will be out of a job.

“This place is their home and these people are their family,” said Carter. “The people that patronize Val’s are their family.”

Val’s Sun and Shape is asking anyone to help by simply patronizing the business and seeing what they’re about.

Donations are being accepted by cash or check.

Carter said if not enough money is raised by October 1, she’ll return the money donated.

Val’s Sun and Shape offers 5 levels of Tanning, Leg Tanning, Robotic Toning Tables, Airbrush Spray Tanning, Cardio, and Infrared Light Therapy. It’s located at 101 N Eastern Ave. in Moore.
