Best supplements for an energy boost: Ashwagandha, Coenzyme q10 and iron

In order to maintain good energy levels, it’s helpful to get regular exercise, destress, have a good night’s sleep and maintain a healthy diet – including three pills proven to boost your mood.

A plant-derived substance has been shown to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety – two energy-draining factors.

Researchers from Asha Hospital, in India, investigated the effects of consuming ashwagandha.

For their experiment, they enrolled 64 participants who had a history of chronic stress.

The drug treatment group consumed 300mg of ashwagandha in each capsule.

During the treatment period, a follow-up telephone call was made to all subjects to check for treatment compliance and to note any adverse reactions.

By day 60, the ashwagandha group exhibited a significant reduction in scores on all the stress-assessment scales relative to the placebo group.

No serious adverse reactions were noted, concluding that the consumption of ashwagandha safely and effectively improves a person’s resistance to stress.

Another supplement more closely linked to easing fatigue is Coenzyme 10.

The antioxidant was investigated by researchers from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, USA.

Their review found a consistent link between low levels of Coenzyme 10 and fatigue.

Medical News Today stated that the recommended daily dose can be as much as 200mg.

A deficiency in iron can lead to a lack of energy and fatigue, attested Medical News Today.

Although iron poisoning is rare, taking too much iron can lead to an upset stomach.

Signs of an upset stomach can include nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting.

The NHS states men and women over the age of 50 need 8.7mg of iron every day.
